Info for AAUW Branches

Let’s Read Math (LRM) began as a community outreach project of the Makefield Area (PA) Branch of AAUW  (www.aauwmakefield.org).  The first little workshops at the local library have turned into something much bigger.  The program is growing… within AAUW and beyond.

This website was made possible by a 2-year community action grant from the AAUW Educational Foundation (www.aauw.org), awarded to project director Dr. Claire Passantino for startup activities taking place in 2005-2007.  In June 2007, the West Chester- Chester County PA Branch of AAUW (www.aauwchestercountypa.org) was awarded a second 2-year community action grant from EF, to spread the program to other AAUW branches, especially in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Efforts are being coordinated with Claire Passantino and the Makefield Area Branch.  Click on the “news” tab above to…

  • See what has happened since the grant period began on July 1, 2007.
  • Learn about branches who are starting their own LRM programs.
  • Read about upcoming trainings and events.

If your branch wants to know more about Let’s Read Math, contact Graham Boose at GDBoose@comcast.net, or phone 610-431-7701.  We are working to support branches interested in starting their own program by:

  • Sending an information packet for your branch to review LRM materials;
  • Arranging for a training session in your area;
  • Offering small stipends to get you started.

Although the grant is targeted towards AAUW branches in the Mid-Atlantic region, we are offering  advice and support to other branches who are interested in starting programs.   We hope you will join us in our goal to overcome math anxiety in children and in the adults who care for children.  We want everyone to know and understand that it is possible to HAVE FUN WITH MATH!
